Weekend Reading for 04/11/08

By ValleyPRblog on April 11th, 2008 In Weekend Reading

It’s Valley PR Blog’s weekly link list to interesting posts around the PR, marketing and social media blogosphere — on topic, off topic and the “snooze release” of the week.

On Topic

ComPRehension: PRSA launches a blog that will serve professional development — Via Kami Huyse at Communication Overtones

An issue of integrity - Madhavi Mukherjee at India PR Blog on the sublter arts of what we do.

RSS feeds provide a broader base to pitch story ideas (registration required) - PR Week’s Frank Washkuch has a few simple ways to expand your reach.

Off Topic

Names that forge a bond on the Internet (New York Times) - Ever check up on your “Googleganger”? Author Angela Shelton interviewed 40 of her namesakes for a new book and found remarkable similarities. My Googleganger and I have never met but he lived in the same city as me for years, also worked in the music and film industries and his brother has the same name as my wife. Interesting article on the psychology of why we care.

Snooze Release

Math Intervention Program Aligns to NCTM Curriculum Focal Points (Pearson) — how can the Chandler-based leader in making education exciting write such a snore fest — even to a trade show audience? This release immediately collapses under the weight of its own jargon. How is this helping them sell more product? How is this getting financial analysts excited about the new product? Why can’t the product information be a separate fact sheet or better yet, linked to on their website?  8 “z’s” out of 10.

If you have favorite blog posts for the week, saw the world’s most boring press release or read an interesting off-topic article, email it to us for a future Weekend Reading.
