Eight Things You May Not Know About CHARLOTTE
1. I was a “4-H Babe”. My boyfriend loves to tease me about my country roots and teen years in 4-H. For you city folks, 4-H is a youth program that promotes community and leadership…and, most of you know us as the kids who bring the livestock and projects to the county and state fairs. I was the President of my group during my senior year of High School and showed chicken and sheep at the fair every summer. 4-H is more than animals…I also submitted photography and cooking projects. My “claim to fame” during this time was Special Honors for a Microwave Zucchini Bread. It wowed the judges at a time when people were just discovering the baking uses of the microwave (am I dating myself now?)
2. I am a 26 year old trapped in a 36 year old body. I don’t think I look 36, dang it! I hope it has something to do with the fact that I wear SPF makeup and moisturizer every day so my skin isn’t too wrinkley, but what I really mean is that I seriously think I am about ten years too old when it comes to my fascinations with social media, pop music and pop culture. I have no problem posting bulletin surveys on myspace divulging personal (and sometimes private) secrets about my life, watching a marathon of “Sweet Sixteen” or Britney videos on MTV and gossiping about whos dating who in Hollywood. I do admit to have slowed down in my partying ways…a decade of bartending and cocktail waitressing took its toll on me!
3. I shed a lot of tears. I don’t just cry when I am sad. I cry when I am pissed off. I cry when I am frustrated. I cry when a contestant on “The Biggest Loser” loses 2 pounds. I get teary-eyed when I find inspiration in a client’s work or story of accomplishment they had with a customer. I cry when they sing the National Anthem. If you see me flipping through Readers Digest, O (Oprah’s magazine) or even Arizona Woman…theres a darn good chance I shed a tear or two about something I just read that affected me inside. I am emotional. And, I won’t apologize for it.
4. I HEART BURBERRY. Kristin Davis’ character on “Sex and the City” and I don’t just share fabulous first names *wink*. We both go CRAZY for Burberry. I think it is the ultimate in sophistication and class. Someday, when I am married and pregnant, I will most definitely be registering for baby at Burberry…so, save up your money!
5. I despise opening the mail. Unless its a check from a client. There is a pile of mail sitting on my office floor….Ugh…I really have got to stop procrastinating about this! I also rarely check the answering machine at home, as the only calls I seem to get are from telemarketers and opinion polls. Right now the answering machine is flashing “4 missed messages”. Its been flashing like that for about two weeks now.
6. Redheads have more fun! I was born blond, but have found that ginger hair is much more fun now that I am in my 30s. This was me…back in the day on the farm in our backyard.
7. Bar-B-Que and Jared the Subway Guy! Before I went into PR, I worked at a local ad agency and handled added value promotions and events for Subway. One event was the Heart Walk in Kansas City, where I spent the weekend on media visits with Jared (the most recognizable “celebrity” I have ever been around). When we weren’t promoting the Heart Walk, we were dining with the Kansas City Subway Board Members at Jack Stack BBQ and, yes, you can still maintain your weight by indulging in ribs and brisket once in a while. We had a few very interesting conversations during the weekend…maybe if you run into me someday I will share more……
8. In my robe and its 3pm on a Monday. Ahhh, the life of working at home. If only the you and the media knew I was pitching, emailing, writing and blogging here at my desk in a robe with my cat on my lap, hair in a messy bun and yesterday’s make up smeared around my eyes!
