Worst press tour experiences ever

I hate press tours.  Know why?  I had to gussy up, which meant uncomfortable heels, and accompany an executive I didn’t know ALL that well on a schedule that left me no time for a good night’s sleep or sitting down for long.  Yes, I’m apparently lazy.  I admit it.   And, I usually ended up in cold, dark cities in January, too – like Chicago, Boston and San Francisco.   Where oh where are the tech & manufacturing editors in Savannah and Tampa?

My top three worst tours involved an executive who insisted that I carry all the press kits as I tottered in heels through New York City streets, another executive who demanded that we get up obnoxiously early so he could grab a spot on ”The Today Show” outside in the crowd shots, and another New York City tour that involved a personal fear – riding in a pre-20th century elevator.  You know, the kind that has the see-through metal gate that you have to close before the elevator will start.

I see a theme here – they were all in NYC.

I don’t do press tours now, and I do NOT miss them.

I completely agree. I don’t USUALLY do press junkets, utilizing 21st Century marketing tools instead. Wearing those heels kills me, too.

Why on earth are you wearing heels for press junkets? Isn’t that what the women’s movement was all about??? You don’t have to wear high heels to be well-dressed, get some of those nice 1-inch or 1 1/2 inch Hush Puppies pumps, they look great and you can actually walk around in them! I still have two pairs that have held up over time.

Ditch the heels, girlfriend!!!

Vanity and height, Deb! I’m a petite New Englander of French Canadian descent. And my idea of “heels” is 1″ or 1.5″!
