The early buzz on Google Buzz

Will it or won’t it? Succeed that is. If you use Gmail you now have access to Google Buzz, the latest entry into the social networking fray. But just because you have it doesn’t mean you’ll use it.

My early impressions are that Google Buzz is more akin to Twitter than Facebook, although it offers a greater ability to embed content rather than simply link to content like Twitter. The integration with Gmail is excellent and I like the fact that users don’t have to visit a separate site to use it.

However, I didn’t need another social networking tool! I am just getting used to Twitter and frankly I love Facebook. I didn’t ask for Google Buzz. That being said, I have played around with it over the past few days because, like the proverbial mountain, it was there.

I’m not that impressed. I love Google, Gmail, Google Reader, Google Docs and plenty of other G apps. And while Google Buzz has a head start on acceptance because it came with a built in user group (if you have Gmail you have Google Buzz), I’m just not that interested in “starting over” with a new tool. Twitter and Facebook are enough for me. I suppose I’ll keep playing around, and maybe it’ll eventually gain critical mass, but I’m not holding my breath.

Pete Cashmore of Mashable thinks Google Buzz will be a hit. For a mixed review, Computerworld offers its full review too.

Anyone have a different early opinion? Am I missing some major significant advantage that will eventually change my mind?

Somehow was one of the early invitees for Google Wave – problem is, no one else is using it. As Len says, he loves Facebook. I’m a MySpace person, but everyone seems to have migrated to Facebook, ranking it #2 of all Internet sites. As Yogi Berra said about Facebook, “No one goes there anymore – it’s too crowded.”
