PC’s still rule, according to survey results

On Monday, I asked people to answer two questions about their dependency on PCs and mobile phones. This was mainly a connectivity question.

I posted  a link to Survey Monkey, and sent out an email to 16 people, randomly selected from my contact list. I had 23 responses.

PC or Phone?

• 69.6% of respondents said they would miss a PC more, if they were to lose connectivity.
• 30.4% of them said they would miss connectivity via a phone

On Phone Usage

• 78% send text messages
• 68% get text alerts.
• 52% maintain appointments.
• 43% sync up with email.
• 13% thought it would be too much trouble to use a phone to browse the web, or post blog entries.
• 23% didn’t think they could use their phone to make Skype calls.
• 17% use their phone to listen to MP3 files.

You may be interested in whom the sample represented.  They came from publishing, design, PR, marketing, product management, finance, law, printing, and higher ed.

I don’t want to draw any conclusions from this; it was a quick snapshot, and not supposed to be a scientific survey. But, considering the talk around how terrible it would be, should there be a Blackberry blackout, it puts things in perspective.
