IABC launches members-only blogging tool

At first glance I thought yesterday’s email from IABC was announcing a new social media network, but upon further investigation I discovered that instead it’s a very cool “turn-key” blogging tool for members.

IABC eXchangeThe service, called IABC eXchange, enables members to easily launch a hosted blog or discussion group that can be open to the world or members-only. The tool is basically a custom Wordpress application with shortcuts tailored for the IABC user.

IABC says the service can be used to:

Create special interest discussion groups (e.g. “New trends in employee communication,” “Entrepreneurs think tank,” “This week’s movie reviews”).

Start your own personal blog (Share your opinions on the profession, offer tips on your area of expertise, post a journal of your travel adventures).

Create an online newsletter (for your IABC chapter or region, your consultancy, your book club).

Collaborate with fellow volunteers on IABC chapter programs (plan your chapter’s professional development events, exchange ideas for community service projects, coordinate your award judging process).

Share best practices (post documents, images or streaming audio/video you’ve created or found that exemplify effective communication).

There’s nothing here you can’t do on your own with a hosted Wordpress account, so it’s probably not the best place to launch your “I Love George Clooney” blog, but if you are looking to launch a communications-related blog or are an IABC board member this is a nice tool.

One thing I didn’t see was a way for members and non-members to search eXchange for blog titles to see what’s interesting…but I’m sure that’ll be coming soon or perhaps I just couldn’t find it :)

Thanks, Len.

We defintely intend to add blog search, top ‘n’ sites, recently added sites, etc, but figured we’d wait until more sites were created first.
