Finding like-minded souls in AZ

By on October 9th, 2007 In Social Media

Phoenix is growing so fast these days that sometimes it’s hard to find like-minded people.   We all tend to stick to our own geographic areas.  Traffic is beginning to look like L.A., so our radius for travelling gets smaller and smaller.

Despite Arizona’s national image as primarily a conservative state, there are a variety of events going on here, no matter what your political bent – they just need a little more PR.

My boss from 20 years ago, Gene Wang, sold his company Bitfone to HP awhile back and is getting involved in politics with the passion I remember from his VP of Marketing days at Gold Hill Computers.   He called me to tell me about a new video he has created and posted on YouTube to support Hillary Clinton’s campaign.   (That’s him playing the flute).

I figure this is all California-related activity until I then find out there are “Team Hillary” organizational meetings to be held in various cities in Maricopa County this Thursday, Oct. 11th.

I have a good friend in communications back in Boston who is conservative and can’t find many like-minded friends.   Boston is even worse than Phoenix when it comes to sticking to a short radius from your home – the traffic is challenging.  I should tell him to look up the campaign websites of his favorite candidates and find out where to meet.

Meeting online through social networking sites is fun, but it sure is refreshing to talk face to face, especially if your conversation partner is so brilliant as to share your same views and values.

I have used Meetup.com to find like-minded people to meet with. There are groups of all kinds no matter what your interest.
