CPAs get social
As we speak I am teaching a seminar to a bunch of CPAs at the Arizona Society of CPAs. They are asking really good questions. I thought they were going to be a little conservative…but they are not. See, CPAs are people too.

Len, I enjoyed your class Friday at ASCPA. I am the person to the left in your photo above with the salmon colored shirt. I would say that I am the one with the grey hair, but alas . . . I think everyone in the room had gray or no hair.
You inspired me to get moving on project which I have been wanting to do for some time. I took a stab at a weblog to support my company’s website and other PR efforts . . . http://cfofa.wordpress.com
I would like to set a time to talk or correspond with you about using your expertise to help me with my firm’s efforts.
Again, thank you for the informative and interesting class.

I worked with some of the world’s best CPA’s during the height of the dot com boom while with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Silicon Valley. Virtually every top company was a client in some way – if not on the audit side, they were clients for IPO support, web metrics, web security, venture capital development, financing and more. We literally recruited worldwide to have enough staff to keep up with demand. They were very human, not to mention extremely smart people dealing with very complex issues. The established CPAs forged their careers in an era in which media and public relations involvement was discouraged. The new CPAs came into the job expecting to be visible and brought media skills and savvy to the table.
It’s good to see the ASCPA involved in social media! Given the level of financial illiteracy in Arizona I hope they will consider some pro bono work to help people here while also giving people a better understanding of the value of the profession.
