Beware phishing scams on Facebook

By Linda VandeVrede on April 30th, 2009 In Social Media

There’s a new attack on Facebook that comes in the form of a friend sending you a message, “Look at this!”  Do not click on the link.   For more info on the scam, read about it here in TechCrunch

Two other Facebook tips — I change my password frequently, and I do not put my birthdate or true birthplace anywhere in the system.   Sooner or later, hackers will figure out a new way to gather all the data, and I’d rather they know the name of my dog than truly sacred data.

Be especially careful of clicking through links if you get Facebook notifications via e-mail to your smart phone! It’s much harder to tell that you’re clicking on something harmful from there.

Absolutely!!! NEVER put your real birthdate any where on the Web–ditto for other personal-type info.
