Anniversary of the word “Weblog”
What an interesting week!
Ten years ago, the word “weblog” came into being. BBC reports that it was coined on December 19th, 1997.It took another two years for it to be abbreviated into what we now refer to as a “blog.”
The blogosphere has become the world’s leading power strip, into which communities of collaborative, creative, and disenfranchised people plug in and feel empowered. The best case in point this year, in my opinion, was Advertising Age columnist Bob Garfield’s blog, not ambiguously titled ComcastMustDie.
This week, Comcast responded by way of an article in AdAge, admiting there is a problem. It demonstrates once again, how the world’s largest corporations are paying attention to the comments and conversations going on in this thing called a blog. Garfield has noted the amazing effect the blog has had on customer service. People posting their complaints have had their Comcast problems resolved by customer service reps who have called them!
All because of this awkward 6-letter word.
