Are you a nonprofit sector communicator, or do you have nonprofit clients? Would you like to meet with other nonprofit communicators to share best practices and talk about trends in the nonprofit sector? Join the Nonprofit SIG!

This month we’re excited to welcome our very own PRSA Phoenix president, Abbie Fink, Vice President/General Manager of HMA Public Relations as our February speaker. Abbie has a plethora of experience working with both for-profit and nonprofit clients. Additionally, she has board and volunteer experience with several nonprofits, so she brings that perspective to the table, with the added element of being a seasoned PR pro. Some questions we’ve asked Abbie to address during her time with us:

· Are there specific practices that work better with your nonprofit clients?

· What strategies have you used with corporations that should/could be applied to nonprofits? And vice versa?

· What’s it like being a communicator-by-trade being a volunteer, i.e. how do you use your skills/knowledge when furthering the mission of the organizations you volunteer for?

After Abbie speaks, she has kindly offered to stick around for a roundtable/Q&A session with the group.

When: 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18

Where: Save the Family – boardroom

450 W. 4th Place (intersection of Country Club and University), Mesa 85201

Park in the gated parking lot for the main building and enter through the upstairs entrance.

Cost: Free to Phoenix PRSA members and $5 for non-members

RSVP: Kindly RSVP to Amy O’Hara by Monday, Feb. 15.

  • Volunteers needed for “resume fair” with ASU PRSSA students

The ASU PRSSA chapter is holding a “resume fair” for its members the evening of March 10 (exact time TBD) and needs PR professionals to review resumes. Time commitment would be approximately two hours at the Cronkite Building at the ASU Downtown Campus, 555 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix 85004. This is a great opportunity to meet possible candidates for internships at your organization, as well as share your experience and expertise with future practitioners. If you are interested and available to volunteer, please contact Amy O’Hara.
