NAWBO lunch about working with the media
I am a member of the Phoenix NAWBO and just signed up to attend the March 12th lunch which will focus on the topic of “Working with the Media”. I had tried to see if I could get on the panel a while ago, but was told they already had their people. The speakers will include Lisa Kaiser Hickey, NAWBO National President; Sonja Haller, reporter for the Living Section of the Arizona Republic and Alisa Vades-Rodriguez, managing editor for the Latino Perspectives magazine.
PR is a hot topic with business owners and I will be curious to hear what is discussed and the advice they give business owners in attendance. I’ve blogged about this before, but I really hope that the folks on the panel explain some of the advantages of hiring a professional to do the pitching. Of course, their educating a business owner ahead of time with facts about how the media works, what is needed for a story and the importance of photographs, media training, etc is very valuable and powerful information…and I am sure they will talk about this.
Can’t wait to attend and blog afterwards about my impression of the discussions.

I hope they have someone from PR or a media trainer. It’s fine hearing from reporters, but in my experience, they only give one perspective — what works for them. They don’t tell business owners how they can better succeed at guiding stories and interviews — things like messaging, bridging, etc.
