My Top Ten PR Resolutions
Everyone loves an end of the year “Top Ten List”. Here are my PR Resolutions. Care to share yours?
1. Continue being a connector and source for media. If someone needs my help with a story, I am here and have a wide group of contacts.
2. Pick up the phone more. I know some hate the calls, but I hate to see some emails never answered. But can I handle the verbal rejection?
3. Make some new friends. Twitter brought me closer to a lot of media in the past year. Always great to put a face to an email. I wonder who I will meet in 2010?
4. Is Twitter so 2009? What new social media site will help me communicate and learn in 2010? Curious to learn more about foursquare, thats for sure!
5. Social Media ROI. I want to read more about case studies and examples of how social media is helping small businesses in Phoenix. Got one?
6. Make the most out of my PRSA membership. What else can I get out of the organization? What do you enjoy about it?
7. Raise my rates. I think I am undervaluing myself. In fact, I know I am.
8. Learn to say “no” more. I am a people pleaser and sometimes my life is harder when I say “yes” instead of just sucking it up and saying “no”.
9. Blog more. Somehow I will find time to express myself more as a PR pro and a work at home mom.
10. Speaking of being a work at home mom (WAHM), figure out how to juggle baby, work and home life. Its all about balance, right?

Those are great resolutions! I also have a feeling “Twitter is so 2009″ and am excited to find out what 2010 has in store for the virtural world. Also, my resolution as a fellow WAHM (and PooGrin blogger!) is to keep work down the hall and not on my mind (or on my Blackberry) when I’m with my family. Time is too short!

“Raise my rates. I think I am undervaluing myself. In fact, I know I am.” If you need to ask that question, you are (both undervaluing yourself and worth the money). I recommend Larry James’ book, “10 Commitments of Networking.” Larry’s best life coach in Arizona – worth his hourly rate. Ask his rate – your hourly rate should be about the same.
My resolution is to seek progressive thinking marketers or company owners, not the ones who threw me out of their offices in 2007 (including a major utility) for recommending YouTube & MySpace presence. When you turn on the nightly news, you see a YouTube story. Those who threw me out of their offices skated to where the puck was, not where it was going to be. Press releases? Really?
My new agenda is SmartPhone apps. Any companies progressive enough to accept that thinking?

P.S.-2010, year of 4G. Remember you read it on ValleyPRblog first!

I would also like to add “Get involved in a mentor program.” If you’re a seasoned professional, focus on teaching and helping others in 2010, or if you’re a New Pro, find a mentor! The great thing about mentorships is that both people learn new things and make new professional contacts. PRSA is planning on launching a mentor program in 2010 so stay tuned!

Love the resolutions Charlotte. I’m right there with you on many of them.
We should all make it a point to write down our resolutions and put them out in the social mediasphere…I think it helps hold us accountable. Way to get the ball rolling Charlotte!
Here’s to a prosperous and joyous 2010!
