What do you like about PR?
What is your favorite part of your job? Is it the writing, the pitching, the strategy, research or analysis after a campaign? I posed this question on Twitter yesterday and got a variety of answers. I’d love to hear what you love most about your job.
For me, its gotta be creating a pitch. I love finding something new and interesting about my client and perfecting the angle and pitch to fit in with a reporter or producer’s beat/show. I try to find a way to tease it in the subject line with some select keywords and then add more info in the email body to get the reader hooked. Then, when it gets picked up, thats even better.
This is what others shared:
Tweet@MktgwithaFlair -The writing and the research. I’m always amazed at how much there is to know about things that seem so simple on the surface
@PaulaPedene – strategy for me and planning. Wish I could just do those but I do like all the others. Just my favs those 2
@joePRguy -I love pitching- the interaction with editors and reporters, getting just the right angle…. it’s fun to me
@vettieroe - my fave part is building working relationships with producers, editors, reporters, etc. (not pitching) I find it priceless
@DebPlunk – Strategizing… I get really excited about working with clients to create great ideas. Also like pitching (most of the time)!
@cyndec – I love planning and strategizing…then analyzing afterward how well the work paid off. It is satisfying
@sherrybutlerpr – I love to pitch! Learn about client, develop story ideas & get messages out there to serve both client’s & media’s goals.

I love helping a company starting on $10-million initial investment realize $384-million in 1.4 years, hiring hundreds of employees who were paid outrageously, buying cars, going on hunting trips, buying things for their children, like college education, putting food on the table. Also, moving a national trade publication from third to first in its field. Moving a non-profit’s yearly donations from $800,000 to $3-million in one year.
Can’t do that with “Press Release (that’s what PR means)” mentality. It requires a thorough understanding of what public relations is to utilize its full power in achieving these results.

Strategy. Don’t pick up the phone without it.

I love the versatility of it, as a profession. Dentists can’t easily become firemen, lawyers can’t easily become nurses, but PR professionals have the skillset to switch somewhat seamlessly from industry to industry if they want to.

My favorite thing about PR is the optimistic nature of it all. I love advocating for my clients best assets and sharing their good news with the world. I mean who doesn’t think we could us a little good news today?

What everyone else said, and also the knowledge you pick up along the way. PR people and journalists tend to be more curious and have broader perspectives than people in other professions which makes life in general a lot more fun.

It’s all about the relationships for me. I love the face-to-face time, learning about people’s passions, struggles and triumphs and sharing mine. And of course you always get better results when they know you, no matter who you’re dealing with.

I agree with Linda C – I love meeting new people! I love how PR allows you two interact with a variety of people. From research to pitching, you meet tons of people! We are in a social profession, you learn something new everyday from the people you interact with!

Pitching. Pitching. Pitching. Whether it is localizing a national health trend or telling an inspiring patient story – the media pitching is definitely what drives me to do what I do.
