Barby Grant, owner of Barby Grant Communications, is a winner of the prestigious 2010 Gold Quill Award for excellence in business communication, presented by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).  Grant captured an Award of Excellence in the marketing communication category, communication management division.

She also won the prestigious Jake Wittmer Award, which is given to one Gold Quill entrant each year who has used research effectively to develop a successful communication project. All Gold Quill Award-winning entries are automatically considered for the Jake Wittmer Award. Grant is the first winner from Arizona.

Grant won the awards for a comprehensive and research-based summer session marketing campaign she spearheaded for the Arizona State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2009, when she was the college’s director of communication and marketing. She retired from ASU last July to start her own communication and marketing business.

There was one other winner from Arizona: Mary Ehlert-Kleinoeder, ABC of the Arizona Department of Health Services won a pair of Awards of Merit in the creative division for the “Venomocity: Brought to You by Addiction” campaign.

This year’s Gold Quill competition was sponsored by Towers Watson and received nearly 900 entries from 28 countries. Of these, 106 were selected to receive awards—32 Awards of Excellence, 71 Awards of Merit and three Student Awards. The winners will be honored at the Gold Quill Awards gala dinner tonight at the IABC 2010 World Conference in Toronto.
