Good grammar a crime in Arizona

By Len Gutman on August 22nd, 2008 In Hype!

TEALTalk about a victimless crime! Jeff Michael Deck of Somerville, Mass. and Benjamin Douglas Herson of Virginia Beach, Va. have apparently been going around the country correcting grammar and typos on public signs. I love it.

The typo vigilantes were arrested in Arizona after “fixing” a sign at the Grand Canyon. The dynamic duo are now banned from all national parks for a year. Maybe they should head off to Washington and spend some time fixing the public record of nearly everything President Bush has uttered publicly in the past 7 years?

Their project is called the Typo Eradication Advancement League (TEAL), and a google search pulls up some fun stories about them. Their Web site has been takin down, but here are some fun stories:

By the way, I purposely added a typo in this story — can you find it or should we call TEAL?

There’s actually 3 typos. Google is cap, it is Dynamic Duo is, not are and taken, not takin.

Well, it doesn’t make what they did any less of a crime.

That said, I wish they’d focused on the Arizona Republic, which has daily typos.

I thought this story was quite funny. They could have a full time job in Mississippi (was that four s’s, and four i’s. I can envision Bill Geist covering this on CBS News Sunday Morning.

Well, I was going to comment on the typo, but see Richard beat me to the punch. One other minor note, which could be argued, but if you are going by AP Style, “7″ should be spelled out.
