What have you done for the media lately?
How easy are you making it for the people you pitch? These are some ways I try to gain their attention and trust….
- Put the zip code of my client in the subject line or first sentence so the city editor knows this person is relevant for their readership.
- Note that high-res photos are available right off the top of my release and send a link to a photo uploading site so they are easily accessible.
- Don’t include a PDF or attachment unless the recipient knows its coming or send a link to it.
- TV producers love to know if a Live Truck will be able to get a signal for a live shot before they bring the idea to the EP…and the amount of feet it will take to bring cables in from a parking spot.
- Stating the Visual aspects and Timeliness of a topic you are pitching lessens the work of a producer/reporter when they discuss it in assignment meetings.
I am curious to know what you do to make them happy….
