Pitch Me: The John Adam Show
John Adam Kowalski is the executive producer and host of The John Adam Show, which airs weekly on Fridays at 9:00 a.m. on the web and KFNN 1510 (financial news radio). I first learned about him at the Social Media Symposium, and he definitely has a great radio voice. The show focuses on small business.
1. How did you initially get started with this show, and how long has it been on the air? I had been consulting nationally and wanted to take my message to a larger audience. I started the show in April 2006.
2. How would you best describe your target audience for the show? Entrepreneurs and small business owners, startups through second-stage growth companies.
3. Please describe an ideal client for the show – what will be their background, industry? Experts in their field; we are always looking for credible sources of information to benefit our small business audience.
4. How long at most will be the person be on air? 11 minutes.
5. If a public relations person thinks they have a good client for you to consider, what is the best way for them to contact you? What kind of information should they include in their email or phone call? Send an email to john@thejohnadamshow.com; include headshot, company logo and/or book cover jpg files and bio. Interviews are not infomercials and the audience “takeaways” need to be clearly defined in the “pitch.” Basically, describe why a small business audience would care to listen to the interview!
6. What are some do’s and don’ts if their client is accepted? Do be yourself; be personable and friendly. Don’t be nervous and overly talkative; please answer the questions and allow me to ask follow up or clarifying questions to move the interview forward. We prefer all interviews to be live and in studio.
7. What is the strangest pitch that you have ever received? I receive hundreds of pitches every year…the strangest are for guests who have absolutely nothing of value to offer my small business audience.
8. Any other info you’d like to share with PR folks in the Valley? You guys do a great job filtering through potential guests; your services are extremely valuable. Thank you!

Update as of today – Phoenix, Arizona – July 9, 2009 – The John Adam Show, The Most Entertaining Business Radio Show in America, is temporarily suspending its weekly broadcast to focus on fundraising in preparation for broadcasting a daily show. Broadcasting Monday through Friday is a prerequisite for national syndication and is also necessary to meet the growing demands of the small business community.

Linda – any chance you can ask him to contact me about being a part of the PRSA/SPJ publicity summit?
