Idiot Girl returns Tuesday

By Len Gutman on June 23rd, 2008 In People

The Idiot Girl and the Flaming Tantrum of Death by former Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Notaro is schedule to hit bookstores on June 24. The always amusing Notaro will also be making several appearances in the Valley during her national book tour:

Thursday, July 10 at 7 p.m.
Changing Hands

Friday, July 11 at 7 p.m.
Barnes and Noble Desert Ridge

Notaro has certainly had the last laugh as it were since being fired from the Republic in 2002. The week she was fired her debut book The Idiot Girls’ Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life (a compilation of her hysterical Republic columns) hit #13 on The New York Times bestsellers list. Flaming Tantrum of Death is her seventh book.

The ASU grad now lives in Oregon but still claims to love Phoenix despite the fact that the Republic wiped her columns off the face of AZ Central. I loved Laurie’s columns and quite frankly I don’t think they’ve had as good a humorist since. For those of you who love a good underdog story, Laurie self-published her first book after numerous rejections and it wasn’t until it began to get some attention that a major publisher took notice — the rest, as they say, is history.
