Help a PR person, military families out

Are you feeling comfortable right now? A job you love? A roof over your head? Counting your blessings toward a Happy New Year?
Heather Gray was just like most of us at this time last year.
Heather is one of the first PR people I met in Phoenix — and by the way, one of the best (you’re about to see why). If you don’t know her, let me share a few things about her:
-She’s smart. Has a Masters degree in Business.
-She’s an Air Force Veteran. Jumped into action on a special task force after 9/11.
-She’s talented. Was shoved forward as Interim PIO for the City of Mesa in the middle of their budget crisis and probably did better than those before her.
-She’s cool. Fun to be around. Drives a VW Beetle.
-She met a guy. Got married. Bought a nice house in Gilbert.
Great life, right? Then, in 2008, the rug got pulled from under her. Divorce. Layoff. Crap economy. Trying to keep up with a mortgage and school loans became crushing – now, she’s about to lose her house.
But, not one to whine, and like the best in our profession, she turned danger into opportunity. And she’s doing it for a great cause – supporting military families. She’s giving away her house.
She tells it best:
As the saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens. I feel that statement particularly applies to me, as the loss of my home grows closer. But through the support of all of you, I accept this loss not as a failure, but as an opportunity to do something to help out others in need.
Through a partnership with the Murray Grey Foundation, a charitable organization that provides funding to military members in need, and the support of GrayStock Marketing LLC (A new company formed by myself and my friend Denise), I will be donating my home to Murray Grey for an exciting opportunity, which YOU can get involved!
For a charitable tax-deductible donation of $100, you will receive a gift card for up to $500 in free gas or groceries PLUS one entry into the drawing for my home located in the Phoenix Area. The drawing will be held on March 7, 2009 live at Westgate City Center located in Glendale, Arizona, and will be part of an exciting day of entertainment and fun.
I hope you’ll join me in helping a great person and professional — and our military families. Heather has put up a detailed website and video at www.wantacleanslate.com.
Notably, as we are in tax season, the donation also qualifies for Arizona’s dollar-for-dollar military assistance tax credit. We are not accountants at Valley PR Blog, so check with your financial advisor for details.

Unfortunately, this story is all too ordinary right now…particularly in this economy…but her response to what is happening is extraordinary! What a woman…what an inspiration!
Heather, I have weathered a similar storm you’ve been through, and can tell you there is a rainbow at the end. Keep your chin up and let us all know what we can do to help!
What an amazing story…
