Armed with two master's degrees and a 35+ year PR career, I 'transitioned' to academics. My first four years were spent in undergrad, but then was asked to join the graduate faculty at University of Maryland University College. While I did teach several face-to-face classes, most of my teaching has been online, which also allowed me to move to Arizona two years ago. While not having a 'terminal' degree (Phd), I've been able to use my experiences quite well in the classroom.

Hi Linda - Great article and much needed as there is a shortage of PR faculty in this nation. The transition is well worth the effort. I now have the opportunity to impact lives that will impact our profession in the future. Maybe we don't get roses, but the rewards are amazing as you see your young students mature into practitioners and email you several years later and tell you what an impact you had in their life. Better than a bonus! Patty Silverman
