Unedited news interviews online
In an effort to provide even more news content to the public, some media outlets, such as KTVK Channel 3 are offering “unedited” video on their websites.
The first rule in media relations is making sure a client knows that nothing is “off the record” in an interview. This is even more important now, because as your client is spelling their full name to the reporter with a camera pointed at them, there will be no warning that ”This may show up uncut on our website”.
As we all know, most taped interviews get condensed down to a few select soundbites with a reporter voiceover narration for a two or three minute story package. Of course there is more to a story or interview and Channel 3 is wise to offer this up as another way to get viewers to check out their website and learn more than what is discussed in the evening news.
So, be aware and keep this information in mind. It is wise in this day and age to know every word and action can not be “off the record”…because it could end up on the internet..uncut, unedited.
