The unknown columnist
Did all the copy editors leave the Arizona Republic? You can find daily typos in the paper, but this one’s ridiculous: on Sunday, Business reporter Chad Graham was identified as “Name Here.”
Unfortunately, the copy slug oversight came at the expense of a great Q&A with Phoenix career coach and blogger Pamela Slim, who has a new Escape from Cubicle Nation book coming out at the end of April.

Personally offended for Pam, who is a friend, but come on, newspapers, if you don’t want to die, act like you are still alive:-)

I’d like to think this was the odd fluke rather than a sign of things to come but somehow I doubt it.

Dan,
I saw the “Name Here” thing, too. I had to read it a few times to make sure my brain wasn’t asleep.
Yikes…

It was a fine interview by “Mr. Here”…

I saw it too, and thought at first it was a fun pseudonym that Chad used for his column.
I felt bad since Chad took the time to write the story, but since I know that the AZ Republic has gone through major layoffs lately, I definitely give them some slack.
It was my first time being interviewed by “Name Here,” and with the state of newspapers, may not be the last.
Thanks for the mention of the article — I appreciate it!

I thought it was a “Chad-ism” at first, too. Then I recognized the template language. I truly don’t think there’s much proofreading going on at the Republic (or lots of other places, actually) beyond hitting spell-check. Then again, ask me to live without a calculator for a week….

I’m not entirely sure the Republic actually ever *had* copy editors.

Maybe I can start anonymously writing for the Republic. I have a few ideas too…. I could use it to my advantage and get my overweight male clothing line some advertising.

Hey, that’s not my picture! Who does this Chad person think he is?

I hope the papers realize we hold them up to a high level of quality expectation. when they are reducing staff rather than finding new ways to innovate and deliver news, they really should consider the effects on quality.
