See what journalists are saying on ‘Journalist Tweets’

By on May 19th, 2009 In Media

journalist tweetsThe folks at Cision have launched a new product they call Journalist Tweets, essentially a Twitter directory of journalists by industry and country. According to the site:

“Using Cision’s global expertise in media intelligence, we’ve created JournalistTweets.com to sort journalists’ Twitter content into useful, manageable conversations – providing a real-time snapshot of what thousands of reporters, editors, bloggers and broadcasters are discussing in the areas of business, technology, lifestyle/entertainment and health.”

This could either be very a very useful tool for PR folks or a great way to gauge the mood of the media en masse (which given the current condition of the media could be like watching a train wreck).

The site is free and you don’t have to be a Cision subscriber. Evidently Cision is doing this in an attempt to position itself as a source for all things media. While it’s interesting to see what all these journalists are saying, wouldn’t it just be better to scan through the participating journalists, see who’s relevant to you, and then simply follow them yourself? Am I missing something? And who checks to see if these folks are indeed journalists? Do bloggers count? Ah, what a tangled web we weave.

By the time Cision “sorts journalists’ Twitter content into useful, manageable conversations” isn’t it too late to be considered “real-time?” But then again, maybe I’m missing something too.

Why don’t they allow you to search by “twitter” on their service? If they have all these names compiled, it seems like it’d be easy.

Len, Jay from Cision here. Thanks for mentioning our new, free service. I just wanted to reach out and answer Melanie’s question. We are not sorting tweets individually, but leveraging our world-class media database to organize the journalists themselves by the topics they cover professionally, so you can see what issues are top-of-mind in major industries. I hope you find it useful.
