Padgett launches Arizona Notebook

Former Business Journal and Gazette reporter Mike Padgett, who “retired” in 2006, has launched a blog and podcast. Arizona Notebook will focus on real estate, development, the local economy and everything else related to growth in the state.

Padgett covered these areas with energy, professionalism and an expert’s eye over the years and we can expect the blog to continue that legacy. The blog format should be a natural outlet for his creative writing style and in-depth knowledge of his subject matter.

“I guess you could say that writing is in my DNA,” says Padgett. “I enjoy crafting an interesting story, whether it’s about the rescue of a construction worker, or about an architect or developer dreaming about a unique but functional design. I get a rush from creating an interesting story.”

Padgett has a storied history covering business in the Valley. His resume includes: The Business Journal from 1998-2006; The Phoenix Gazette from 1987-1997; and The Mesa Tribune from 1978-1987. He is still actively freelancing in the Valley as well, including penning articles for The Business Journal.

“In our business community, whether the market is up or down, there always is much to write about,” he says. ”In my case, several of my contacts weeks ago began encouraging me to launch a blog. And since I’m not good at retirement, a blog seems like a natural path for me.”
