New look for AZCentral.com

Have you seen the new look for azcentral.com?

It is crisp and clean and I enjoy the darker background frames. It does load slower now and when I first tried to click on “New look for Arizona’s Home Page” i got an error page, but it seems to work now!

A few notable changes:

- We’ve dropped the links that used to run down the left side of most pages on the site. You can now find many of those links under the ‘Find it Fast’ header on the right side of the home page and other section fronts.

- Weather and traffic — two essential sections that have been popular with users for years — are now in the main site navigation at the top of every page

Lots of attention towards photos and videos. Great idea for your clients who want to get their businesses and events online.

I visit this website at least once or twice a day. My favorite page is Arizona Moms because its full of questions and topics that may spur an idea or two for me and my client pitches. I also look over the Business area a lot…and the blogs to get a feel for what writers are interested in. I noticed more attention is given to the Gannett magazines at the bottom of the page here, so if you need info on subscriptions or editorial calendars, check it out.

Not sure how I feel about the incoming comment area at the bottom “Arizona Live” where you can see who just posted their thoughts on stories. It can be depressing to see how many angry, negative people there are online. A prevelant issue with blogging and commenting these days is all the haters. Some though, are pretty funny.

What do you think about the new look?

As I said on Republic blog page, good start, but the Rep needs to embrace Internet media. Compare it to the Salt Lake or Denver sites and it is in last place, still. But it does beat Independent news group’s Newszap.com!
