Hemorrhaging continues at Arizona Republic

By on December 3rd, 2008 In Media

Word on the street this morning is that the axe has fallen on a whole slew of folks at our favorite hometown paper. The New Times “Valley Fever” blog was first on the story and is naming names. I am sad for these good people, many of whom have been fixtures in the Valley news media for decades.

Ironic given my post earlier this morning about the relevancy of the medium.

Some excellent journalists – a real shame.

Our world as PR professionals has so changed and continues to change. How much longer will we use daily newspapers as tools to get out information? Seems like a career as a print journalist is coming to an end, at least in the way its always been.

Bob Golfen was one of the first reporters at the Republic I ever worked with when I switched from journalism to “the dark side.” He made the transition a joy for me and I’ve continued to read his reviews all these years. It’s really a shame to see all of these talented people go.

dang that’s a tough word to spell. I fixed it. Guess I deserve it being a blogger in a world of former copy editors, journalists and English majors.

I’m not a journalist, I just play one at my job
