First BizAZ, now Arizona Woman bites the dust

By on January 22nd, 2009 In Media

The Arizona Republic quietly announced today that Arizona Woman magazine will become a regular feature within AZ magazine, thus ending the stand-along status of the venerable glossy. This is really a shame because Arizona Woman was a solid publication and an important vehicle to showcase interesting and successful Valley women.

The article claims the change is being made as “part of a strategy to focus on women in Scottsdale and the East Valley.” Huh? There are no interesting women in the West Valley? What a load of crap. Just come out and say it guys — this is another cost-saving move pure and simple. We get it already. The Republic is in trouble.

I suppose this is good news for Phoenix Woman magazine!

This really is a shame. This has been such a great stand-alone pub and one I’ve found great placements in all the time.

So bummed. I LOVED this mag. I agree with Len about the “East Valley” comment. If they really wanted an untapped market they would take a look at us West Valley women. The East Valley ladies already have mags!

The article never actually said it was going away…hmmm…very PR-ish :)

Yes, I agree. Great magazine that has really grown and OMG! not really thinking too clearly to not focus on ALL successful women in the Valley. Wonder how Mayor Scruggs would feel about that?

Load of crap is right.

I really hope they rethink featuring only East Valley women. There are truly amazing women all over the Valley, especially in the West Valley.

I am a West Valley woman, so I also found it interesting that they are focusing on East Valley and Scottsdale women. Oh well, we have the West Valley View.

The target audience is East Valley women, but the magazine will distribute throughout the entire Valley.

The editorial will not focus on East Valley women, but ALL Valley women of interest.
