Rock Video Politics

By on February 4th, 2008 In Hype!, Marketing

Judging by the way some political ads have evolved, it appears marketers think the only way to engage the generation that grew up with MTV is to appeal to them through music videos.

A quick trip over to the Obama Web site finds the following slick video, which according to the site was not produced by the campaign:

Earlier this year I was disturbed by a “commercial” for the National Guard, which in my opinion depicts war as a rock video and in the first version I saw used images of 9/11 along with fighting in Iraq. Later versions of the commercial had the towers removed, but the Internet version (see here) still has the dillusional connection between 9/11 and Iraq.

Welcome to American politics circa 2008 — otherwise known as short attention span theater. Are we this easily manipulated?
