Apple iPad, Retrevo show how far technology has come
Whether or not you plan to buy the new Apple iPad, this week’s announcement marked a convergence of technologies that have been brewing for almost three decades.
First – the iPad is the culmination of 27 years of ebook development. The first electronic novel, Blind Pharaoh, was published in 1983.
Second – artificial intelligence technologies, such as those of Retrevo in Sunnyvale, track and measure product launches as they happen. Their Buzzmeter measures twitter keyword activity for terms such as “apple tablet” and “ipad.”
In the 80s, these technologies seemed too far ahead of their time. They’re all coming together now, however, and for tech buffs like me, it’s an amazing experience. Throw in some CAD/CAM, Y2K, and process manufacturing applications, and I’ll explode with happiness.

Very interesting and timely. What people should consider outside of the nice to have aspect of the new iPad is the security aspect. Your old colleague and friend recently blogged about this and we’ll be posting it tomorrow but with new mobile devices, it’s about understanding the features and functions but what kind of security risks these technologies introduce.
