Apply here for worst job on earth

By on August 2nd, 2010 In Jobs

Thank you to friend of the blog and CNN Money reporter Annalyn Censky for passing along this amazing career opportunity to her Valley friends — Director of Media Relations – Gulf Coast Restoration at BP. Annalyn wrote this short piece over the weekend about the “opportunity.” Here’s just a taste of the job actual description:

“The GCR Communication Division was established to proactively inform the public, thought leaders and all other stake holders regarding GCR’s clean-up and remediation efforts along the Gulf Coast. The core functions include national and regional media relations and proactive issues management. Both of these areas are essential to the success of our overall communications strategy and as such, they will report to GCR’s VP, Communications and External Affairs.”

Anyone willing to apply? Forget for a minute that you have to relocate to Houston, which in and of itself may be cause to decline this great gig. Seriously, can you think of a worse job for a PR pro? I’d rather handle reputation management for Lindsay Lohan.

Oh, and thanks as well to Rebecca Clyde of local marketing firm Ideas Collide for passing this job description along as well, and for noting that the job requires a mere five years of experience! Right in the fine print it says minimum requirements include a “bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of 5 years prior experience with media and/or press relations.” What kind of dolt thinks someone with such little experience can handle a job this big (insert Dana Perino joke here).

Beg to differ, Len.

Think the worst job would be for the American Petroleum Institute.

Right before BP well exploded, API had an ad of a woman in an elevator as an oil drill going into the ocean and about how many jobs oil drilling created.

The day after the well blew, no more ads that were running on every station what seemed hourly. API did what Arizona did initially with its PR for SB 1070 – stuck its head in the sand. Took no position nor apologized.

Around March API advertised for a head of PR. Checking Linkedin, it appears Linda Schoumacher Rozett took the post of Vice President Communications at American Petroleum Institute in April http://tiny.cc/2d0t9.

Len, you set the bar high with the Lindsay Lohan comment. So I’ll say I think I rather be U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel’s – or Senator Fred Thompson’s – PR flack before filling Ms. Schoumacher Rozetti’s shoes at API; or take the Director of Media Relations – Gulf Coast Restoration job at BP.
