Vocus launches SMB version

By on April 7th, 2008 In Hype!

VocusMedia database service Vocus today announced it has launched a small business edition. According to the release Vocus SBE (er, small business edition) is “designed specifically to meet the online marketing and public relations needs of small businesses.” But what exactly is this version? Vocus light?

“With limited budgets and no resources to dedicate to public relations, small businesses often struggle to generate publicity and reach potential customers,” said Bill Wagner, chief marketing officer of Vocus.  “Vocus SBE is an online marketing and public relations solution that provides small businesses with the ability to get their message out to millions of consumers to not only create publicity but create sales leads.”

I’ve been using Vocus for a while now and it’s okay. Frankly I’m not blown away. I guess it’s a tad better than Cision and BurrellesLuce, but in my opinion there’s not really much difference between these services.

One thing I can tell you is that Vocus is more expensive, and of course even with all the hype today about their small business edition there is no pricing on the Web site. I’m always skeptical when there’s no pricing.

Do you use Vocus or Cision or BurrellesLuce or even FinderBinder? What’s your opinion of these services?

These products still hype sending mass-mailings to thousands of media outlets, which hardly ever work, instead of targeting messages to the individual needs of each. After 30 years of working with magazines, where each one is different from the other, I’ve found that a few properly positioned and targeted contacts are much more successful.

But few directories have the information marketers need, choosing to push huge “cookie cutter” press release blasts instead. That’s not helping small businesses.

I’m an intern at a local public relations agency. We recently switched from Cision to Vocus, and I couldn’t be happier! Vocus provides an option for a “living list,” which updates itself automatically when someone is promoted or leaves a media outlet. This saves the poor interns so much time.

As a long time PRweb user, moved my business over to their Vocus small business side recently. streamlines the process a bit, actually wound up costing me less but mostly seemed unubtrusive.

my account rep did hit on the blogging relationship, but he focused on the rss categories. if they’re still using email databases, hope they axe it, least with RSS noone can gripe about getting spammed.
