Pettitte comes clean; Roger still in denial

Andy PettitteAt the risk of beating a dead horse, I can’t say enough about how Andy Pettitte has handled the Mitchell Report in comparison to his “best friend” Roger Clemens. While the world watches Clemens’ painful denials in front of a congressional hearing…and while Clemens literally lobbies congress in advance of his hearing…and while every sports journalist in the country rips Clemens a new one…here’s Andy Pettitte today at Yankees Spring Training:

“I felt like I need to come out, be forward with this,” Pettitte said. “Whatever circumstances or repercussions come with it, I’ll take and I’ll take like a man and I’ll try to do my job.”

and

“I want to apologize to the New York Yankees’ and to the Houston Astros’ organizations and to their fans and to all my teammates and to all of baseball fans for the embarrassment I have caused them,” he said. “I also want to tell anyone that is an Andy Pettitte fan I am sorry, especially any kids that might look up to me.”

While Clemens will spend the rest of his life answering questions about his alleged use of HGH and probably never pitch again in the majors, Pettitte will move past this easily and get back to the business of baseball within a matter of days. What exactly is Clemens trying to prove?
