Do resumes tell the truth?
I have been chatting with many HR managers and recruiters about the value of resumes. As a follow up to ValleyPRBlog’s New Grad PR Secrets Series post about resumes, and Dan Wool’s “Your resume is a PR fact sheet about yourself” primer, let me put out two provocative questions to those at the receiving end of resumes.
- Do resumes tell the truth? If you’re screening someone, how much credibility is there in the details?
- Do you do some additional due diligence when screening a person with say, a Google, Facebook or LinkedIn search?
Some of the HR people I asked had mixed feelings about today’s resume. One said that “most CVs are written for the job” and he meant they were ‘customized’ to the point of being faked, with time periods and job descriptions being embellished. LinkedIn, on the other hand gave him a more reliable picture of the candidate.
What do you feel about today’s resumes?
