Bruce Jacobs hits the wrong spot
The KFYI-AM talk show host knows exactly what he’s doing when he cruises down controversy boulevard. Like pulling up at a gas station and lighting a match just to see what happens, some radio talk shows have found it to be a very successful model. Roil up the audience, keep them from turning the dial, get them to spread the word and keep advertisers happy with the audience reach.
But Bruce Jacobs appears to have tried to light up the airwaves for the wrong demographic. The Phoenix Police department is now asking for his apology with regard to what they call an attack on the widow of officer Nick Erfle, killed in September last year.
They say he crossed the line. But that’s what this kind of host does for a living. Until the audience –and the advertisers– decides if they should be in the same lane as the reckless driver.

I remember the show WKRP in Cincinnati. It competed against Lou Grant. Both shows accurately portrayed their fields – radio and newspapers.
Johnny Fever got fired for saying booger on the air.
It makes me wonder how Bruce Jacobs keeps his job; but on the other hand, maybe as a society we are becoming more tolerable where we can accept a variety of points of views. This is where enlightenment begins.
