Arizona sustainability getting press

By ValleyPRblog on June 22nd, 2008 In Hype!

Today’s Arizona Republic marks the beginning of a six-day series on Sustainability in Arizona from reporter Shaun McKinnon that shines a light on the need for a plan and meaningful effort from citizens and business on sustainable living. Some interesting stuff, and much of it (like the fact that Arizona could and should become a world leader in solar), we already know.

Reading that piece had me wander over to ASU’s Global Institute of Sustainability website. Have you seen what this group is up to?? Getting headlines is the initiative by ASU to put solar panels across the university’s rooftops in the not-too-distant future. Very exciting stuff, and it’s an effort that should be mirrored by other universities and commercial entities with plenty of rooftop.

The effort is getting national press like Forbes and NBC Nightly News, and others. Kudos to the communications team, led by Karen Leland.

Next time you’re chatting up friends and colleagues, give this solar initiative some word-of-mouth love, because it’s way cool and the fact that it’s happening in Arizona (finally) is worth talking about.

I’m glad to see ASU’s efforts in the solar power arena. There really is no reason that AZ shouldn’t be primarily solar power oriented. On a side note, I just used a double negative!

Yup. Sunny you is right.
Would be nice to see Arizona make headlines as a leader on the world’s stage for solar. We’re sure not there yet, but it’s the one area that is actually a possibility. Much more so than biotech, which is the top area that gets unwarranted buzz.
