New PR leader, hires at R&R

R&R Partners’ Phoenix office has promoted Matt Silverman to Managing Director. He replaces Mark Heigel, who served in the positon for the past seven months and in executive positons at R&R for eight years.

The Las Vegas-based marketing and PR agency also upped David Weissman to Director of Public Relations, Silverman’s former post. In addition, the firm announced that David Gough has joined as Senior Copywriter and Catherine Spear as PR Coordinator.

Matt Silverman joined R&R two years ago and helped drive success with clients including Valley Metro, Fennemore Craig, Tri-West Healthcare, National Bank of Arizona, Cox Communications, Cigna Medical Group, United Jewish Communities and the Arizona Business & Education Coalition. Previously, he was Senior Director of Communications at the State Bar of Arizona and a member of their senior management team for eight years. Before that he had a 15-year career in TV news successfully managing newsrooms across the country. Matt also writes a monthly column on reputation management for the Business Journal.

David Weissman came to the agency two years ago as an Account Supervisor. He has background as a reporter, attorney and media relations expert. He previously directed the Charitable Works Division at Cooley Advertising and Public Relations. He also worked as the public information officer at Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.


David Gough, senior copywriter, comes to R&R with experience at major agencies including BBDO Detroit, McCann Erickson and The Richards Group. His client work has included Red Lobster, Atlantis Hotel and Casino, Chick-Fil-A, Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep. Gough was also a member of the University of Wyoming Football Team.

Catherine Spear, PR Coordinator, graduated form ASU in May. She has agency experience through internships at Gordon C. James Public Relations, McMurry, ckpr and Barclay Communications.

Wow! I find it interesting that R&R would move forward attempting to promoting “what remains of their staff” after they just laid off 12-15 out of 24 this past Monday. That takes a lot of nerve.

Many talented PR pros are in the market - membership in the Scottsdale Job Network is at an all time high of 1200. This nonprofit, all volunteer support group consists and job seekers AND recruiters/HR pros/business leaders. Job listings can be posted at no charge.

Sad to say but many of the most talented people end up leaving the Valley or underemployed.
