Barclay “Rocks,” Earns “Sweat” Equity

The Rock

Barclay Communications and AE Julie Drolshagen have quite a shout-out in the November issue of SWEAT magazine.  Editor Sue Berliner’s welcome column singles the agency out for doing PR right and — more importantly for the firm — focuses entirely on their client, Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Game Plan” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.  She says:

I am often emailed press releases that have little relevance to SWEAT Magazine. Occasionally I find a diamond among the rocks. On Aug. 21, an email appeared with the subject line: “The Game Plan – PA Tour – Phoenix – 9/19 – Save the Date”. If I had not recognized the sender, Phoenix Public Relations agency Barclay Communications — I would have dragged the email to the trash and missed one hell of an opportunity.

The invite was for a movie press tour with the cast of “The Game Plan”. I’m certainly not on the A-list for these types of events, but as I read down, I realized why I was invited. Not because of the football theme of “The Game Plan” but because of the leading man: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. I quickly called the agency to reserve my spot and confirm the invitation. The agency intentionally opened the tour to non-traditional movie reviewing media due to Johnson’s sports background. My lucky day! Unfamiliar with this kind of press tour, Barclay’s Julie Drolshagen gave me the low down on what to expect, the schedule and protocol.

I had a date with The Rock.

I used to work with Julie D at a local ad agency. We both moved on and in the past year crossed paths again when I did a short stint reviewing movies for a local paper. She is REALLY on top of her game when it comes to the media and the movies she previews. I am going to assume she was also behind the press screening for local celebrity french chefs when the movie “Ratatoullie” was out this summer too. She is great at what she does!
