Thanks-giving
As a way to say Thanks to the media this holiday season, I spent the past few days dropping off homemade turtle candies around town. Attached with the tins of treats, I included a hand-written note. I know in a week or two, everyone’s desk will be full of gifts and cards and if I did this then, my gift would just be one of the many….kinda like when we send email pitches….our email is just one of hundreds in the Outlook sea!
If you aren’t aware, most media cannot accept gifts over a certain dollar amount, so if you are thinking of being extravagant or looking to impress, the reciever may have to turn it over to Community Relations or HR to pass out to local charities.
In no way do I believe a few delicious caramel-pecan-chocolate goodies will entice a reporter to write a 3 page feature article or 5 minute segment. I just think that its nice to hear “Thanks” once in a while with no strings (or pitch) attached.
