Offering Thanks

Thank You!As we get ready for Turkey and Black Friday, I’d like to share some PR gratitude with the readers of Valley PR Blog. I’ve been in PR for less than 4 years, but have grown so much and want to show my thanks from some integral moments during my career.

  • Thanks to a couple bad bosses. If it weren’t for the stress, depression and frustration you brought me, I’d never be motivated to say “Screw this” and decide to start my own PR biz.
  • Thanks to a few fabulous bosses. If it weren’t for your faith, encouragement and confidence in me, I’d never have the strength to move forward and be the best.
  • Thanks to the reporter at the Arizona Republic who took my call at my first PR gig and said to me “Its 2pm and I’m on deadline. Whatever you are pitching, you better give it to me in 15 seconds because thats all the time I have and then I am hanging up.”  I understand deadlines and the importance of getting to the point thanks to you!
  • Thanks to the former client who refused to pay me because they didn’t think I really did anything (even though they had numerous media hits every month.) Now I realize the importance of educating new clients about what I do behind the scenes.
  • Thanks to clients who have been with me for years now and constantly tell me how happy they are with what I do. I love making a difference in your biz.
  • Thanks to the PR Indies! Without your advice, help and guidance as I continue to grow my biz, I wouldn’t know what to do. Your openness and willingness to share your experiences is so appreciated.
  • Thanks to the freelancers in Phoenix. Its a tough life out there some months and even if you don’t pick up my story idea, I do appreciate your honesty when I ask for a review of my pitch or lack of “AP style”.
  • Thanks to every reporter, anchor or producer who has taken time out of their busy schedule to have coffee or lunch with me. That face-to-face meeting meant the world to me, and solidified relationships that emails and phone calls could never do.
  • Thanks to my friends and fiance, who have seen my addiction to email and phone interupt meals, shopping, social events. I know…its rude. I apologize.
  • Thanks to everyone who has ever picked up a story pitch. No matter if you did a full spread article, a sweeps package or a calendar listing…you didn’t hit Delete and I thank you for that!
  • Thanks to PRSA Phoenix for expanding my knowledge, my network and my experiences. The opportunities I’ve had are making me stronger as PR pro. Thank you.
  • Thanks to Dan, Len, Linda and Angelo.  You’ve allowed me to share experiences, vents, advice and open honesty on this blog. Reading your posts and seeing comments from the readers has truly helped me grow as a PR pro.

And finally, a BIG THANKS to all the Valley PR Blog readers! You rock! Keep reading, keep commenting and please introduce yourself if we see each other out and about. Have a fantastic Thanksgiving. Gobble, Gobble.

Great post, Charlotte. Sometimes the people who hold you back are the ones that inadvertently push your career forward…funny how that works. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Aren’t bad bosses the best! They teach you what not to do, what not to be. It’s fun getting to know you through the blog and Facebook.
