Feedback after bad interview
Ever get an email or phone call after a client was interviewed and the producer/reporter says it wasn’t good? It rarely happens to me…but today it did. And I knew it. I had explained over and over to give real, meaty tips and my client just referred to very vague information that sounded preachy after he was asked a very direct question “What can we do today that will help with __?”. And this client had media coaching. I put in a message to the media coach to review and give advice to the client and also gave my feedback in an email after reading the transcript of the segment. Thankfully, I got a humble reply from the client and we will work on making the next interview better from this experience.
How do you reply to a producer or reporter after a not-so-great interview? I am grateful for their honesty, but also embarrassed. I replied with a thanks for the feedback and opportunity and I will make sure to discuss with the client. Luckily, I have some good relationships, so I know they don’t hold it against me, but it sure makes me feel like crap.
