Do you tell?
I have dealt with TV producers who ask “to be first” with the story I pitch them on a new client/product/service…but have never had a magazine editor bring this up..until today. (see below)
I have no idea how to respond, because, well, quite frankly, I pitch to all relevant publications and sometimes one will bite and sometimes more than one will bite. I can’t tell other publications that another one is doing something on that client..they probably won’t accept the story idea then? Right? Or is there something I should be doing differently?
Also, please make sure to let me know if your stories are being picked
up by other publications … I noticed that So Scottsdale magazine did a
piece on (name withheld) in February, and we are featuring her in
March/April … it would have been nice to know.
Thanks much,

As the host of an online radio program, we regularly interact with press agents and P.R. firms. We value firms that bring suitable guests to our attention but trust only ourselves to gauge that potential guest’s media exposure and interest to our audience. The editor that complained about not being told what other media were carrying a story should be complaining about their own business practices, not the exposure information provided by the person that pitched the story idea.
